The Best Fall Weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana

Isaac and I had such an amazing time in the Greater Lafayette area during the fall! We planned our weekend around Feast of the Hunters’ Moon, which is an annual fall festival where thousands of reenactors recreate the annual fall gathering between the French and Native Americans in the mid-1700s. Aside from this awesome festival, there is so much to do in Lafayette during the fall!

Fall Activities

Experiencing an Iconic Fall Tradition

Feast of the Hunters’ Moon is a can’t-miss Midwest fall event, especially if you are a history lover (my husband is an American history nerd). Right next to the Wabash River, this festival brings history to life with reenactments, traditional food, live music, and interactive demonstrations. From the smell of open-fire cooking to the immersive 18th-century atmosphere, it was one of the most memorable events we have ever attended!

Sipping Local Flavors

We really enjoyed our time at  Wildcat Creek Winery, a very charming winery where all the drinks are made on-site! I am not joking when I say that their Back Porch Persimmon is one of the best wines my husband and I have tried! They really do a great job of creating unique and complex flavors!

Getting Creative With Glass

At Inspired Fire, we stepped into the world of glass and tried our hand at crafting our own pieces. It’s approachable, fun, and a great way to do something different during a fall getaway. 

Running with the Wolves

Wolf Park delivered one of the most unique experiences we’ve had. Their “Howl Night” program gives visitors a close, educational look at wolf behavior, conservation, and communication. Hearing the wolves howl under the night sky is something we’ll never forget.

Maze Adventures and Orchard Moments

Fall isn’t fall without a good corn maze, and Exploration Acres has the largest one in Northwest Indiana. It’s full of family-friendly activities and feels like the heart of autumn.

We also visited Wea Creek Orchard, a lovable seventh-generation farm offering apples, lavender products, and seasonal treats. 

Fall Foods

Bruno’s – A West Lafayette classic dating back to 1951. This nostalgic spot serves comforting Italian dishes, and the menu is simple, hearty, and exactly what you want after a busy fall day.

Brokerage Brewing Co – A fantastic stop for craft drinks and a relaxed atmosphere.

Cafe Literato – A cozy spot that serves great coffee, sandwiches, and brick oven pizza!

Arnis Restaurant – This local pizzeria has such a fun and eclectic interior, and is a great family-friendly spot for a relaxed fall dinner.

Bistro 501 – One of the standouts of the entire trip! This upscale French-inspired restaurant in downtown Lafayette delivers incredible dishes with thoughtful presentation that also feel comforting. 

Igloo Frozen Custard – We can’t say enough good things about this nostalgic, family-owned local gem. Their in-house frozen custards, sodas, and classic comfort dishes truly blew us away. It’s charming, it’s old-school in the best way, and everything we tried was amazing. A must-visit when you’re in the area.

Our Takeaway

A fall Lafayette-West Lafayette weekend offers an experience that blends history, local flavor, and classic Midwest charm. You can spend the morning exploring an 18th-century reenactment, the afternoon getting creative in a glass studio, and the evening listening to wolves howl, then still have time to stop for frozen custard on your way back to the hotel!
